With the new year always comes new goals, new resolutions; but don't forget that it also comes with changes.
Here are some of the top Social Media trends expected in 2018 and how to take advantage of them!
1. Snapchat Who? Instagram Stories Are Here to Stay.
Instagram Stories are a big deal and they’re not going away. Daily viewers of Instagram Stories surpassed daily SnapChat viewers just one year after launch, and the growth isn’t stopping. Instagram Stories in particular will be relevant from a marketing perspective because, compared to other transitory video platforms, Instagram metrics are eminently trackable.
2. Watch Out, Here Comes Generation Z.
Gen Z is two- to three times more likely to be influenced by social media than by sales or discounts — the only generation to value social media over price when it comes to making purchase decisions. Addtitionally, a recent study conducted by Goldman Sachs concluded that Generation Z was more valuable to most organizations than millennials. Because of this, many companies are focusing on social platforms like Snapchat and Instagram as they are fan favorites of Generation Z.
3. Goodbye Human Interaction, Hello ChatBots.
Over 2.5 billion people use messaging platforms globally, and yet brands are still primarily focused on connecting with consumers on pure social networks. In 2018, expect brands to invest more time and money in connecting with consumers on messaging platforms. Artificial intelligence, voice assistants and chatbots will enable brands to offer personalized shopping experiences on messaging platforms like Messenger, WhatsApp and Kik.
4. The Influencer Marketing Investment
Influencer marketing is big business — a billion dollar industry by some counts. There is an exhaustive list of micro-celebrities who earn six figure incomes. As Millennials advance their careers, and Generation Z starts theirs, an enormous population’s purchasing power is increasing swiftly and starkly. These two groups — who, combined, literally comprise most of the world’s population — are uniquely influenced by this marketing method.
5. “Boosting” Your Paid Advertising
For years, companies’ organic reach on Facebook (the percentage of their followers who see company updates that aren’t “boosted” with ad money) has been dwindling; but is still critical. But Facebook is constantly updating their algorithms to allow less and less individuals to see your organic content unless they are consistently engaging. Facebook Advertising has been introduced and is proving to be the king of high-conversion, low-cost marketing if executed correctly. One silver lining: Facebook has pioneered some of the most precision ad targeting tools ever. (Wanna pitch to twenty-something soccer fans living in Phoenix who work in retail and like dogs? No problem.) So, at the least, ad money promises to be well spent.
